This department has the following functions:



• To promote Catholic education in collaboration with the Ministry of education.

• To implement and safeguard church educational policies such as religious traditions and other Christian values in schools.

• To coordinate the teaching of Christian Religious Education (CRE) and Pastoral Program of Instructions (PPI) in schools in collaboration with other Christian churches, parents, teachers and other local leaders.

• To have fostered the Catholic faith, doctrine and values among youths in school, and to sustainably provide quality education to both boys and girls in Catholic schools,

The Catholic sponsored schools in the diocese are 582 (82 primary and 500 secondary schools) while Catholic teachers are 5,500 with 4000 in primary and 1,500 in secondary schools.

The Schools run by religious personnel are as follows:

PRIMARY

• Holy Rosary Girls. Turbo - Assumption Sisters of Eldoret.
• Kobujoi Primary School - Franciscan Sisters of Asumbi.
• Queen of Angels Eldoret -Assumption Sisters of Eldoret.
• Our Lady of Assumption, Eldoret-Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus.
• Mary immaculate Primary School Kitale - Mary Immaculate Sisters of Nyeri.

SECONDARY

• Loreto Day Private - Loreto Sisters
• Mother of Apostles Seminary -Priests and Immaculate Heart of Mary
• Immaculate Heart Juniorate -Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters
• Loreto Matunda (Boarding) - Loreto Sisters
• Eldoret Harambee-Patrician Brothers

A few Priests, Sisters, and Brothers are staff members of some other schools in the Diocese.

The department recently underwent a reshuffle that saw Mr. James Murrey, the education secretary move over to run the pastoral directorate.
He was replaced by Mr. Joseph Cheserem. Sr. Cecelia Muthoni is still the assistant Education secretary.
