This
department started as the women in development department in 1996. In
1998, the
department changed to women and gender department.
The main objective of the
department is to promote the sustainable social and economic
development of gender in the diocese regardless of age, race, religion
and status within the society.
It mainly targets the marginalized and disadvantaged population who
are poverty stricken.
The mentioned group is the most vulnerable and therefore susceptible
to vices like HIV / AIDS pandemic, ignorance and social evils related
to poverty. Any form of support to this group is welcome.
Its main functions include:
To create awareness of the situation of gender in the Diocese.
• To promote activities and projects that enhance gender empowerment.
• To enhance gender participation in activities of the church and
society.
• To promote single mothers activities in the Diocese.
• To promote income generating activities among women, men and youth
groups.
• The promotion of savings and credit scheme and the revolving fund.
• To design relevant educational materials for the department e.g.
leadership management.
• To provide education opportunities for the women, men and youths in
the diocese.
